Mastiff Puppy for Sale

When you think of buying a Mastiff puppy for sale, learn much on the breed first. You have to know its history and original purpose to understand the personality and keeping requirements of the Mastiff. Originally, this breed was designed for fighting with large animals and dogs. Throughout its history, the Mastiff was used as a war dog, a herder of the large cattle, and personal protector. Nowadays, dogs of this breed are used as police and military dogs, search and rescue dogs, guards, and family companions.

Though a Mastiff puppy for sale is small, fluffy, and cute, it will develop into a large and massive dog. You should be ready to keep a dog that weighs up to 200 pounds. The breed standard has no limitations for the size of the Mastiff. Larger dogs are preferred. The average weight of dogs is about 160 pounds; females weigh about 150 pounds. The wither height of the dogs starts at 30 inches; females are over 27 inches. Though these dogs are calm and inactive indoors, they need enough room to sleep and play. A house with a small yard will be ideal for a Mastiff, if the owner takes the dog for a walk daily.

When you make a decision to buy a Mastiff puppy for sale, keep in mind that it’s a long-term responsibility. The average lifespan of this breed is 10-12 years. Though most Mastiffs are lazy and slow, they need regular exercise. Chasing moving objects, jumping, and communicating with other dogs is not for the Mastiff. These dogs prefer walking. Grooming requirements for the Mastiff are rather low. This breed is an average shedder and needs occasional bathing and weekly brushing. Mastiff dogs tend to drool and snore. They need quality food and eat much.

Like all purebreds, Mastiffs are prone to specific hereditary health problems, like ectropion, cardiomyopaphy, and skin disorders. Large and massive dogs tend to develop hip or elbow dysplasia, bloat, and gastric torsion. If you buy a Mastiff puppy for sale from a responsible breeder, you are likely to get a healthy and happy pet.
